RICHMOND, Ind. — A space pirate searching the galaxy for a new home is at the center of a unique performance coming to Indiana University East this Friday.
Amity Trio and special guests will present Oliverso the Ballet at 6 p.m. Friday, October 23, in Vivian Auditorium at Whitewater Hall. The family-friendly performance is free and open to the public.
Combining chamber music, opera and ballet, the production follows Olive, a space pirate searching for a place where tolerance and respect are valued.
The performance brings together Amity Trio, composer Nur Slim and dancers from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music Ballet Department.
Oliverso the Ballet expands on Slim's contemporary children's opera, which premiered in Indiana in 2024. The production incorporates English, Spanish and Spanglish.
Amity Trio is a chamber ensemble featuring soprano Katie Dukes Walker, horn player Michael Walker and pianist Kimberly Carballo. The group focuses on music by living composers and bringing different artistic voices to audiences through performances, education and community engagement.
The production also features choreography by Sarah Wroth and direction by Rory Willats.
