RICHMOND, Ind. — Forget the training schedules and running shoes. An upcoming fundraiser in Richmond is putting a different spin on the traditional race, and participants won't even have to break a sweat. And there's a bigger purpose behind all the fun: supporting local recycling and reuse efforts.
The East Central Indiana Recycling & Reuse Hub is hosting its inaugural 0.5K Fun Run on Saturday, October 24, beginning at 11 a.m. in Richmond's Historic Depot District. The event will raise money to support the organization's efforts to reduce waste and keep reusable materials out of landfills.
Participants can walk, jog or simply enjoy the experience. There's even a VIP option that includes a ride along the route for those who would rather skip the running altogether.
There won't be any bib numbers or timers, but there will be a children's costume contest with prizes.
The route begins at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, 900 N. E Street, and ends at the Model T Museum, 309 N. 8th Street.
More Than Just a Race
The festivities begin at 10 a.m., when Breakfast Burgers and Beyond opens in the Better Homes and Gardens parking lot.
Visitors can also explore booths featuring Alpek Polyester, cookies, candy and small pumpkin gourds. Ullery's Ice Cream will offer a discount, and Neighborhood Health Clinic will have a wellness check booth at the finish line, offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks.
Registration Details
Registration costs $10 for participants ages 17 and younger and includes a decal. Adult registration is $25 and includes a decal and T-shirt.
For $40, participants can choose a VIP ride along the route or a virtual participation option, which includes mailed event merchandise.
Registration forms are available at the East Central Indiana Recycling & Reuse Hub, 262 Fort Wayne Avenue in Richmond.
Organizers also hope the event will encourage residents to visit Richmond's Historic Depot District while supporting the Hub's environmental mission.
