Schools across the region are preparing for the 2026-27 academic year, with several local districts set to begin classes in early August.
Nettle Creek School Corporation will be the first local district to begin classes, with students returning Aug. 4 at Hagerstown Elementary and Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School.
Richmond Community Schools, Fayette County School Corporation and Centerville-Abington Community Schools will begin classes Aug. 5.
Richmond Community Schools students will return to Charles Elementary, Crestdale Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Starr Elementary, Vaile Elementary, Westview Elementary, Dennis Middle School, Test Intermediate School, Hibberd Program Building and Richmond High School.
Fayette County School Corporation will begin classes at Connersville High School, Connersville Middle School, Eastview Elementary, Everton Elementary, Fayette Central Elementary, Frazee Elementary, Grandview Elementary, Little Spartans Preschool and Whitewater Career Center.
Centerville-Abington Community Schools includes Rose Hamilton Elementary, Centerville-Abington Elementary, Centerville-Abington Middle School and Centerville Senior High School.
Northeastern Wayne School Corporation and Western Wayne Schools will start the school year Aug. 12.
Northeastern schools include Northeastern High School, Northeastern Middle School, Northeastern Elementary and the Early Learning Center. Western Wayne schools include Western Wayne Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and Lincoln High School.
Randolph County Schools will begin classes Aug. 24. The district includes Winchester Community Schools, Monroe Central Schools, Union City High School, Randolph Southern Schools, West Side Middle School, North Side Elementary, Baker Elementary, Deerfield Elementary and Willard Elementary.
Several back-to-school supply giveaways and community events are also planned throughout late July and early August, offering free school supplies, backpacks and other resources for students and families.
