Wayne County officials have declared a Level III Travel Prohibited Flooding Emergency as severe flooding continues across the area.

The Wayne County commissioners issued the travel warning at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The declaration is scheduled to remain in effect until noon Thursday. Officials are urging residents to avoid travel and prioritize their safety.

The American Red Cross has established an emergency shelter at the Kuhlman Center at the Wayne County Fairgrounds for individuals and families who need immediate assistance.

Henry County also is under a travel warning amid widespread flooding. County Emergency Management Agency officials said the county’s trustee center will remain open for evacuees as long as needed. The center is located at 501 S. 21st St. in New Castle.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, follow emergency instructions and share information with family, friends and neighbors who may need assistance.
