Arts Fair Focuses on Mental Health

NEW CASTLE, Ind. – The Art Association of Henry County, in collaboration with community partners, will host the Arts for Mental Health Fair on Saturday, May 9, at the Arts Park and Pavilion.

The event will feature artists and creatives from a variety of disciplines, including visual, graphic, performing, culinary and literary arts, while promoting mental health awareness and community resources.

Organizers said the fair will also provide space for local organizations to share information about programs and services that support mental health.

The event is scheduled to begin with setup at 10 a.m., followed by informational booths from 11 a.m. to noon.

From noon to 1 p.m., attendees can view two-dimensional visual art, including plein air painting demonstrations and artwork for sale.

Youth activities will include rock painting and jewelry making.

Performing arts are scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m., featuring music, dance and other live performances. Planned participants include Lightkeepers, led by Jamara Tait, and Golden Phoenix Dance Studio. Additional performances, including acting and yoga, are being considered.

From 2 to 3 p.m., the event will highlight three-dimensional and literary arts, including pottery, glasswork, a possible 3D printing demonstration by New Castle High School and poetry readings.

Food will be available throughout the event, with local vendors, including potential participation from a high school culinary arts program and area food trucks.

Organizers are seeking additional artists, performers, organizations and vendors interested in participating in the event.
