RICHMOND, Ind. — Richmond-area residents will have an opportunity to receive a free Thanksgiving meal kit during the 2026 Holiday Turkey Giveaway on Tuesday, Nov. 24.

The event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 E. Main St. The giveaway is open to the general public throughout the event and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Each household may receive one meal kit. Recipients must be at least 18 years old and present a photo ID.

The kits will include a whole turkey and shelf-stable side dishes, such as green beans, yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing and gravy. The turkey and other food items will be provided for families to prepare at home.

In addition to providing food, organizers will connect participating families with information about local resources and services. Those resources include housing assistance, the Family Self-Sufficiency program for Housing Authority of the City of Richmond residents and Section 8 voucher recipients, health insurance navigation, mental health care and other supportive services, including case management, coaching and education.

Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help with the event.

On Monday, Nov. 23, volunteers will pack dry goods into meal kits from approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church.

Volunteers will also be needed Tuesday, Nov. 24, for setup and cleanup from approximately 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Other volunteer opportunities include helping lead lines, explaining the event to participants, serving snacks to people waiting and carrying meal kits to vehicles for people who need assistance.
