CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind. — Local musicians will donate their time Saturday at a benefit aimed at raising money for residents and businesses recovering from severe flooding in Wayne County.

Pilgrimage Wine Company will host Common Ground, a flood relief benefit featuring live music, food and wine from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Cambridge City winery.

Organizers hope to raise $16,000 for flood relief efforts in Cambridge City and Hagerstown.

The benefit comes after severe flooding Aug. 12, when parts of Wayne County received as much as 10 inches of rain in less than 24 hours, according to event organizers. The flooding led to water rescues, evacuations, road closures and damage to homes and businesses.

All proceeds generated by Pilgrimage during the event will be donated to the Wayne County Cares Fund. Pilgrimage owners Scott and Emma Eckart said the business will not retain any of the event proceeds.

“These aren’t strangers. They’re our neighbors, friends, customers, fellow small business owners and the people who make this community what it is,” the Eckarts said in a statement. “There are times when being a good neighbor simply means showing up.”

Performers scheduled for the event include Kevin Stonerock, Becki Davis, Sean Lamb and Janet Miller, Chad Wonsik, AJ Wetzel, Kyle Hazard, Hoey & Jeans, Paul Anguiano, Scotty Unplugged and Katie Lumpkin. Additional performers are expected to be announced.

Cooked Food Truck and The Loaded Goat Food Truck will serve food during the event, and Pilgrimage will offer wine.

Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $25 per attendee.

People who cannot attend can contribute through the Common Ground GoFundMe campaign. Organizers said all funds raised through the campaign will be transferred to the Wayne County Cares Fund for flood recovery.

The Wayne County Cares Fund will use the money to assist residents and businesses dealing with cleanup, repairs and other recovery needs following the flooding.
