RICHMOND, Ind. – The annual Wayne County Veterans Memorial Park car show is set for Sunday, Aug. 30, with this year’s event featuring a special patriotic theme celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The car show was postponed after severe flooding affected Wayne County. The park did not flood, but organizers said it sustained some damage.
"Yes, there was a little bit of mud and the bridge got taken out by a tree,” said Mary Gray, who is helping with the event.
The event will feature classic cars, hot rods, trucks, Jeeps, motorcycles and military vehicles. Eleven categories will have trophies, along with a new award for the best patriotic display.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our nation’s two hundred and fiftieth anniversary,” said Cheryl Amos of the Indiana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The patriotic award includes a trophy and a gift basket with more than 30 items donated by Richmond-area DAR members.
Proceeds traditionally benefit maintenance of the park and its monuments. This year, however, organizers said all proceeds will go to the Wayne County Foundation Wayne County Care Fund for flood victims.
Vehicle registration for $15, with dash plaques available to the first 100 entries. Spectator admission is free.
Registration begins at 9 a.m., and vehicles can arrive through noon.
